Junior golfers enjoyed the challenge of competing at Studley Wood GC as the east Oxfordshire venue held the JGAP Champion of Champions Final.

Alex Barnett, who is a member at Ellesborough (Wycombe) and has a handicap of 23, was the stand out player as he carded a magnificent tally of 43 points over 18 holes.

The 12-year-old finished four points ahead of Freddie Murfitt (Studley Brook), who took second from Kidlington’s Alfie Westbrook (Studley Brook/Frilford Heath) with the same score.

Countback was needed to decide the winner of the girls competition as Lily Rigby-Walden edged out Huntswood (Taplow) clubmate Erin Bailey thanks to a better back three holes after both came in with 38 points.

Scoring in the boys’ nine-hole competition proved that the future continues to look bright for regional golf after Eli Matthews (Goring & Streatley) bagged 34 points to clinch first prize by four from Callum Lambert.
