Turkish delight for Eddie after a strong finish

Eddie Pepperell finished tied sixth at the Turkish Airlines Open

Eddie Pepperell’s strong finish to the season continued with another fantastic outing in the Turkish Airlines Open.

The Frilford Heath member ended on 14-under par for a share of sixth place in Antalya, four shots off winner Justin Rose.

The Abingdon golfer’s best run of form in his career has propelled him back into the world’s top 150 after an 18-month absence.

It was Pepperell’s third consecutive top-10 finish as well as his seventh in his last eight tournaments.

Pepperell, whose high point came when he eagled the 15th hole on the final day, put in championship winning performances on three of the four days and even found himself in second place heading into Saturday.

The week started in sublime style, with the 26-year-old recording back-to-back rounds of 66 in days one and two to sit second in the leaderboard, four points behind then-leader Nicolas Colsaerts.

Things were going steady on Saturday until two late bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes meant he carded a level-par round of 71.

Pepperell had lost places, starting the final round in a share of seventh, but hadn’t lost shots on the leaders.

Birdies at the fourth, fifth, 11th and 12th holes kept Pepperell in the hunt, although his progress was hindered by dropped shots at the seventh and 13th.

He hit back with his eagle three on 15 to finish strongly and secure his tied sixth placed finish.

Pepperell is up to 35th in the European Tour money list for this season, ahead of the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa, in which he tees off at 8.39am today (Thursday).
