Get your five a day while you enjoy a pint in your local pub

Regulars at an Oxford pub will soon have the opportunity to buy their veg while enjoying a pint.

Carrots and beer may seem like an unusual combination but as from next week that’s exactly what will be on offer at The Jolly Postboys at Florence Park.

The Cultivate VegVan will be stopping at the community pub every Wednesday from August 23 between 3pm and 7pm with their locally grown, ethically and organically produced fresh goods.

Cultivate is a food co-op all about bringing people together to create a better food system for Oxford. Better for everyone who eats food, better for everyone who grows food, and better for the planet.

They work with local growers, farmers and producers to bring the best local, ethical and delicious produce to the people of Oxford via the mobile greengrocer shop (the VegVan), and at their market stall grocery.

The new stop in the Florence Park area will also act as a collection point for Cultivate’s new click and collect service which enables customers to order produce online in advance and simply drop by their nearest stop and collect at their convenience.

The manager at The Jolly Postboys Drew Brammer says the pub is all about being part of the community.

He added: “For us, opening the Jolly Postboys was about being part of the community here in Florence Park, bringing a place to relax, have a drink and something great to eat.

“Now with Cultivate visiting us each week the good people of Florence Park will have access to local fresh vegetables on their door step, as well as being able to share a bit of gossip over a carrot. Food is the glue that binds communities.”

Sales and marketing manager  for Cultivate Katie Herring said: “With the launch of this new stop we’re hoping to make it even easier for people to get their hands on truly local, ethical and delicious fresh produce.

“We’re really looking forward to working with the team at the Jolly Postboys and have some exciting plans for collaborating to make this new location a real community and local food hub.”
