Man will be sentenced for sexually attacking a woman at knifepoint

A man robbed and sexually assaulted a woman while holding a knife to her throat.

Weijie Liang, 24, of Barton Street, Gloucester, was convicted of sexual assault by touching following a three-and-a-half day trial at Oxford Crown Court on May 5.

Prior to the hearing he had also pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article.

Liang held a craft knife to the woman’s throat at a house in Didcot between 11am and 11.30am on November 7 last year.

He demanded cash, which the woman handed over, before sexually assaulting her and fleeing, stealing an iPad in the process.

The victim ran outside and saw Liang driving away. A member of the public, who managed to scribble down his vehicle registration number, rushed to her aid.

Liang was arrested later and charged the following day.

Investigating officer detective constable Fran Griffin, from Force CID based at Abingdon, said: “The conviction of Liang demonstrates how seriously Thames Valley Police takes all reports of sexual
offences.

“I would like to commend the victim for her bravery. She gave evidence in court, resulting in Liang’s conviction.”

Liang was remanded in custody to appear for sentencing at Oxford Crown Court on June 2.
